Robert McLaughlin
Project Manager- Football Future
Robert McLaughlin is a current junior and defenseman on the Men's Lacrosse Team at Holy Cross. Bobby is from Lindenhurst on long Island, New York. He is an economics major with a minor in philosophy, who is involved in a number of community programs on and off the Holy Cross campus. Bobby will be spending the summer in Gulu, working at the Ocer Campion Jesuit College (OCJC). He will be teaching classes and working with the faculty and staff to be an effective member of the OCJC community for this summer and beyond. Bobby was greatly moved by his experience in Nicaragua, where he participated in a 10 day immersion program through Holy Cross. The experience was extremely formative as it changed the way that Bobby thinks about the social, political, and economic circumstances of children and families living in the developing world. Bobby's experience showed him that 10 days can open one's eyes, but is far too short to truly connect with the community and be a part of positive change on the ground. This inspired him to apply for the incredible summer program at OCJC and to supplement his teaching work with this community-building project, designed to bring his love of sports, teamwork, and wellness to the deserving kids in Gulu. As project manager, Bobby will work collaboratively with the kids and staff at OCJC to construct a new soccer field and develop a comprehensive wellness program to empower the future leaders of Gulu.
