Action for Education: Building a School in San Pedro Sula, Honduras
SHCAB is proud to support and work with Michael Mastroianni and his on the ground partners in San Pedro Sula, Honduras to build a community school to serve 200+ students in a region where education is often inaccessible for many children and families. The project is a 3 phase initiative, in which Michael and SHCAB have been working to raise the needed resources at home to support and participate in the community's construction and launch of the school. Thanks to incredible partnership with the neighborhood's community coalition of volunteers and school staff, led by Jorge Encalada, the project has raised over $7K in total resources and mobilized the construction of 3 classrooms. In mid January, 2015, Michael and Jeff traveled to San Pedro Sula to work with Jorge and the community to build and to support the teachers and staff with school supplies and planning support. We have successfully completed phase 2 of the initiative! Now, Jorge and our partners are working hard to complete Phase 3 which will be the completion of roofing for the final classrooms and mounting of the doors to complete the classroom spaces. Then they will clean-up the job site and prepare the classrooms and school landscaping for the official opening of classes on February 1st, 2015!
